Marvel at the stark beauty of Leh’s rugged landscapes, experience the historical charm of Kargil, and conclude your epic ride in the picturesque valley of Srinagar. This adventure blends thrilling rides, breathtaking vistas, and a deep connection to Himalayan culture and heritage.
Day 1: Arrival in Delhi
Altitude: 216 m; Weather: 25-35°C (July to September). Arrive in Delhi, where the tour begins with a warm welcome and orientation. After checking into your hotel, you’ll have time to relax and refresh after your journey. In the evening, meet your tour companions and the support team for a briefing on the days ahead. This session will include discussions about safety, equipment, route details, and tips for riding in the varied terrains we’ll encounter. Later, if time allows, you can explore some of Delhi’s famous landmarks such as India Gate, Qutub Minar, or the vibrant Connaught Place market. Overnight stay in Delhi.
Day 2: Full Day Exploring Delhi
Weather: 25-35°C (July to September). Today is dedicated to discovering Delhi’s historical and cultural richness. Begin the day with a guided visit to Old Delhi, where you can explore the Red Fort and the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk, famed for its spices, fabrics, and sweets. Take a rickshaw ride through these lively streets, stopping at Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest mosques. In New Delhi, visit landmarks such as the Lotus Temple, Humayun’s Tomb, and the India Gate War Memorial. You’ll also see the grand architecture of RashtrapatiBhavan (the Presidential Residence) and Parliament House. After a day steeped in history, you’ll have an evening at leisure to rest or prepare for the adventure that lies ahead.
Day 3: Delhi to Chandigarh by Shatabdi Train, Then Ride to Kasauli
Ride Distance: 60 km; Ride Duration: 2 hours; Altitude: 1,800 m; Weather: 15-25°C (July to September). An early morning start takes you on the Shatabdi Express to Chandigarh, arriving after about four hours. Upon reaching Chandigarh, you’ll be introduced to your Royal Enfield Bullet 500 CC or Himalayan 411 motorbikes. Following a brief orientation and safety check, embark on your first ride to Kasauli, a quaint hill station in the Shivalik range. The roads leading to Kasauli offer sweeping views, gentle curves, and pine forests. Arriving in Kasauli by late afternoon, you’ll have time to unwind, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and explore landmarks like the Christ Church or the Sunset Point. Overnight in Kasauli.
Day 4: Kasauli to Shimla
Distance: 73 km; 3-4 hours; Altitude: 2,276 m; Weather: 15-25°C (July to September). Today’s ride takes you further into the hills as you ascend to Shimla. Known as the “Queen of Hills,” Shimla was once the summer capital of British India. The ride offers gradual climbs through forests of pine, cedar, and oak. Upon arrival in Shimla, you’ll explore the town’s colonial charm, with attractions such as Mall Road, the Ridge, and the neo-Gothic Christ Church. The cool mountain climate and lively bazaars give Shimla a timeless appeal. Evening at leisure in Shimla.
Day 5: Full Day in Shimla
Weather: 15-25°C (July to September). Today is a rest and exploration day in Shimla. Begin with a visit to Jakhoo Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located on the highest hill in Shimla and offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Later, visit the Viceregal Lodge, a stunning building set amidst well-maintained gardens, where many historical decisions were made during the British Raj. The day allows you to take in Shimla’s blend of nature, history, and local life. Evening free for personal activities or relaxation.
Day 6: Shimla to Bradhi
Distance: 122 km; 5-6 hours; Altitude: 2,230 m; Weather: 10-20°C (July to September). Today’s journey is a scenic ride from Shimla to the lesser-known village of Bradhi, along roads that offer glimpses of the middle Himalayas with their terraced fields, apple orchards, and dense pine forests. You’ll be riding along the historic Old Hindustan-Tibet Road, a route that once connected India with Tibet for trade. Upon arrival, take time to experience the tranquility of this remote village. This evening provides a chance to relax and enjoy the hospitality of the local Himachali people.
Day 7: Bradhi to Manali
Distance: 175 km; 7-8 hours; Altitude: 2,050 m; Weather: 10-20°C (July to September). Today, the journey continues to Manali, one of Himachal Pradesh’s most popular destinations. The route gradually climbs, winding through valleys and following the Beas River. Riders will pass through small towns like Kullu, known for its apple orchards and temples. Manali offers a perfect mix of culture, adventure, and nature. Upon arrival, relax or take a stroll through Old Manali, known for its rustic charm, riverside cafes, and small bazaars.
Day 8: Rest Day in Manali
Weather: 10-20°C (July to September). Today is a rest day, allowing time to recharge and explore Manali’s attractions. Options include visiting the Hadimba Devi Temple, a beautiful wooden temple set amidst deodar trees, or the Tibetan Monastery. You can also unwind with a walk along the Beas River or visit Vashisht village, famous for its hot springs. Old Manali’s cafes and handicraft shops offer a relaxed, cultural vibe, making it a perfect day to unwind before heading further into the mountains.
Day 9: Manali to Keylong (via Rohtang Pass)
Distance: 115 km; 6-7 hours; Altitude: Rohtang Pass at 3,978 m, Keylong at 3,200 m; Weather: 10-20°C (July to September).
Today, the adventure intensifies as you cross the Rohtang Pass, a dramatic high-altitude pass with steep curves and unpredictable weather. The ascent is challenging but rewarding, offering stunning views of glaciers and waterfalls. Descending into Lahaul Valley, the terrain becomes more barren and rugged, with fewer trees. Arrive in Keylong, the headquarters of the Lahaul and Spiti district, and explore its Buddhist monasteries and the unique lifestyle of the local Lahauli people.
Day 10: Keylong to Sarchu
Distance: 90 km; 4-5 hours; Altitude: 4,290 m; Weather: 5-15°C (July to September). Leaving Keylong, the route ascends towards Sarchu, crossing the high-altitude Baralacha La Pass at 4,890 m. The landscape here is stark and remote, with vast stretches of uninhabited mountains and valleys. Sarchu, situated on the border between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh, serves as an overnight stop with basic tented accommodations. Riders will experience the sense of isolation and grandeur of the high Himalayas.
Day 11: Sarchu to Leh
Distance: 260 km; 8-9 hours; Altitude: 3,500 m; Weather: 5-15°C (July to September). Today is one of the most challenging days, covering multiple high-altitude passes, including Nakee La and Lachulung La, each over 5,000 m. The famous Gata Loops, a series of 21 hairpin bends, test riders’ endurance. After hours on the road, riders arrive in Leh, a vibrant town and the capital of Ladakh. This marks the end of the journey’s most arduous section, and riders can relax and celebrate reaching this historic town.
Day 12: Rest Day in Leh
Weather: 10-20°C (July to September). Today is a much-needed rest day to adjust to the altitude and explore Leh’s cultural landmarks, such as Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, and the bustling Leh Market. Leh’s blend of Tibetan, Ladakhi, and Central Asian cultures makes it a unique destination.
Day 13: Explore Shey and Thiksey Monasteries; Afternoon Ride to Khardung La
Altitude: Khardung La Pass at 5,359 m; Weather: 5-15°C (July to September). Begin with a morning visit to Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery, renowned for its beautiful architecture and serene environment. In the afternoon, ride to Khardung La Pass, one of the world’s highest motorable passes, offering stunning views of the Karakoram Range. Return to Leh by evening.
Day 14: Leh to Kargil (via Lamayuru Monastery)
Distance: 215 km; 6-7 hours; Altitude: 2,676 m; Weather: 15-25°C (July to September). Leaving Leh, the road to Kargil passes by Alchi and Lamayuru monasteries, with Lamayuru’s unique lunar-like landscape being a major highlight. Kargil’s scenic and strategic significance makes it a fascinating stop. Overnight in Kargil.
Day 15: Kargil to Srinagar (via Zoji La Pass)
Distance: 202 km; Ride Duration: 6-7 hours; Altitude: Zoji La at 3,528 m; Weather: 15-25°C (July to September).
The ride from Kargil to Srinagar marks the final stretch of the journey through the rugged terrains of Ladakh and the high-altitude mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. This day’s ride is significant, as it involves crossing the challenging Zoji La Pass, located at an elevation of 3,528 meters. Known for its narrow, winding roads and unpredictable weather, Zoji La can often be misty, making it an exhilarating yet challenging ride. As you climb and descend through the pass, be prepared for sudden weather changes — temperatures may drop despite the summer months. The terrain changes from barren, rocky landscapes to lush, green meadows as you descend toward the Kashmir Valley.
Once you’ve crossed Zoji La, the ride becomes more scenic with each passing kilometer. The dramatic mountain views transition into rolling hills, fruit orchards, and lush green valleys. By the time you reach Srinagar, the atmosphere changes from the dry, high-altitude deserts of Ladakh to the cool, temperate climate of Kashmir, with picturesque lakes and traditional wooden houses. Srinagar is a place of tranquility and natural beauty, and you’ll feel an immediate sense of calm as you enter this charming city.
Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation, where you can unwind and take in the serene atmosphere. Evening free for leisure or exploring local shops and markets.
Day 16: Full Day in Srinagar – Visit Nishat Mughal Gardens and Shikara Ride on Dal Lake
Weather: 15-25°C (July to September). Srinagar is renowned for its natural beauty, with Dal Lake at its heart, and today you’ll explore the most iconic sights of the city. Begin your day with a visit to Nishat Bagh, the “Garden of Joy.” This beautifully landscaped Mughal garden is perched on the eastern side of Dal Lake and offers panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Stroll through its terraced lawns, ornate fountains, and flower beds, which embody the grandeur of Mughal horticultural designs. After exploring Nishat Bagh, head to Shalimar Bagh, another Mughal garden, which is known for its stunning architecture and serene ambiance.
Following the garden visits, you’ll enjoy a Shikara ride on Dal Lake. This traditional wooden boat ride is an essential experience in Srinagar. As you glide across the tranquil waters, you’ll be surrounded by views of houseboats, floating gardens, and the lush landscape. It’s a peaceful experience that allows you to truly appreciate the beauty of this unique region.
In the afternoon, you’ll explore the local Srinagar bazaars and indulge in some traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and textiles, including Pashmina shawls and papier-mâché products. You may also want to sample some local delicacies like Kahwa (a spiced green tea) and Rogan Josh (a signature lamb dish). Evening free to relax and enjoy the last night of your journey.
Day 17: Srinagar to Delhi – Fly Back to Delhi
Weather: 15-25°C (July to September). After an early breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell to the magical landscapes of Kashmir and the incredible journey through the Himalayas. You’ll be transferred to the Srinagar Airport for your flight back to Delhi. The flight typically takes around 1.5 hours, providing a comfortable end to your long ride.
Upon arrival in Delhi, you’ll have a few hours of rest before enjoying a farewell meal with your fellow riders. This is an opportunity to share memories, relive the adventures, and reflect on the experiences gained during the tour. If your flight back home departs later in the evening, you may also choose to explore some last-minute sights or enjoy some downtime.
This day marks the end of an unforgettable motorcycle journey through the highest and most picturesque regions of India.
