Day 1

Your adventure begins in the bustling metropolis of Delhi, an excellent gateway to India. This day is dedicated to your arrival, settling into your accommodation, and recovering from any jet lag. With Delhi situated at an altitude of approximately 216 meters, it’s a day for anticipation, preparing your mind and body for the exhilarating journey into the Himalayas that lies ahead. You might use the evening to pack essentials for the overnight bus journey and ensure your main luggage is ready for transfer to Manali.

Day 2

This is a strategic travel day designed for comfort and efficiency, covering approximately 550 kilometers by road. In the evening, you will board a comfortable overnight Volvo bus from Delhi, embarking on a long but restful journey towards the mountains. While your bikes are likely being transported separately or awaiting you in Manali, this allows you to cover the significant distance from the plains to the heart of Himachal Pradesh. You’ll witness the landscape slowly transition from urban sprawl to the rolling foothills, with the air gradually cooling, setting the stage for the dramatic scenery to come alive as you approach Manali by morning. Manali itself sits at an altitude of 1,950-2,050 meters, a comfortable first elevation step.

Day 3

Arriving in Manali in the morning after your overnight bus journey, this day is crucial for acclimatization to the change in altitude (1,950-2,050 meters). After checking into your hotel, allow your body to adjust to the mountain air. You can take a leisurely stroll through Old Manali’s charming lanes, explore the local market’s vibrant stalls, or simply relax by the gurgling Beas River. This is also the perfect time to get acquainted with your Royal Enfield motorcycles, conducting any final checks, fitting your riding gear, and ensuring you feel completely comfortable and ready to tackle the mountain roads.

Day 4

This day offers an ideal opportunity for a shakedown ride and local exploration on your bikes around Manali (1,950-2,050 meters). You might choose to ride towards Solang Valley, offering stunning views and perhaps a glimpse of paragliding activities, or visit the ancient Hadimba Devi Temple, nestled amidst serene deodar forests. Alternatively, a short spin around the lush Kullu Valley allows you to fine-tune your riding skills on winding mountain roads, practice turns, and build confidence on your Royal Enfield in the Himalayan environment before embarking on the more challenging routes of Spiti and Ladakh. Enjoy the crisp mountain air and the feel of your bike.

Day 5

Today marks the beginning of your true riding adventure as you depart Manali, riding approximately 85-100 kilometers into the serene Tirthan Valley, a hidden gem of Himachal Pradesh. The ride is relatively short but incredibly picturesque, winding through dense pine and deodar forests, alongside the gurgling Tirthan River. Riders will find immense joy in the smooth, winding mountain roads, the refreshing scent of the pines, and the tranquility of this less-explored region, culminating in the charming hamlet of Jibhi, nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters. It’s a gentle yet captivating introduction to Himachal’s green and peaceful side.

Day 6

Prepare for an exhilarating and varied day of riding as you connect the verdant Tirthan Valley with the majestic Baspa Valley in Kinnaur, covering approximately 160-180 kilometers. A significant highlight will be conquering the challenging Jalori Pass, perched at an altitude of 3,134 m. The pass offers thrilling hairpin bends, often with rough patches, and panoramic views that will test your riding skills and reward you with breathtaking vistas. The descent into the Kinnaur region opens up dramatic landscapes of traditional Kinnauri villages, sprawling apple orchards, and the powerful Baspa River, leading you to Sangla, situated at about 2,650-2,700 meters. This section truly mixes technical riding with awe-inspiring scenery.

Day 7

This is an epic ride that takes you deeper into the raw beauty of the Kinnaur region. The journey to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border at an altitude of 3,450 m, covers about 70 kilometers of narrow, winding road that hugs the Baspa River, offering increasingly dramatic views of glacial streams and traditional wooden houses. Riding to this remote outpost is a unique and thrilling experience. Afterwards, you’ll ride approximately 50 kilometers to Kalpa, nestled at 2,960 m. This section generally offers well-maintained tarmac interspersed with winding sections, all against the breathtaking backdrop of the majestic Kinner Kailash range, providing a perfect blend of challenging terrain and absolutely stunning scenery.

Day 8

Today marks a significant transition as you leave the relative lushness of Kinnaur and enter the stark, lunar-like landscapes of the Spiti Valley. This will be a long and demanding riding day, covering approximately 200 kilometers, with roads that are a challenging mix of paved, broken, and completely unpaved sections. Your endurance and riding skills will be constantly tested as you navigate this raw terrain. You’ll pass through remote villages like Nako and Tabo, riding alongside the Spiti River, surrounded by barren, awe-inspiring mountains. It’s a true test of man and machine in extreme high-altitude terrain, culminating in the dusty but vibrant town of Kaza, situated at about 3,650 m.

Day 9

An exhilarating ride covering approximately 100 kilometers takes you to the mesmerizing Chandra Tal (Moon Lake), nestled at an altitude of 4,300 m. The road conditions on this stretch can be extremely challenging, featuring numerous river crossings, large rocky patches, and stretches of slush, demanding focused and expert bike handling. This is where your Royal Enfield’s ruggedness truly shines. The reward for your efforts is reaching and camping by the stunning turquoise lake, a serene high-altitude oasis, offering an unforgettable night under a blanket of stars in a truly remote and pristine setting.

Day 10

Continuing your journey through some of the most challenging landscapes, this ride of approximately 120 kilometers takes you from the remote beauty of Chandra Tal into the comparatively greener Lahaul Valley. A major highlight is conquering Baralacha La Pass, a formidable pass soaring to an altitude of 4,890 m. This pass is often snow-bound even in summer, offering breathtaking views and an adventurous crossing with sections of slush and gravel. The descent towards Keylong (3,080 m) involves navigating high-altitude streams and rocky sections, making for a deeply satisfying conclusion to a tough but incredibly rewarding riding day.

Day 11

Another high-altitude traverse along the iconic Manali-Leh Highway awaits today, covering approximately 120 kilometers. This day features challenging ascents over Nakee La (4,739 m) and Lachulung La (5,065 m) passes, interspersed with riding across the vast and barren More Plains, a seemingly endless plateau. The riding is demanding but incredibly rewarding, with endless vistas of raw, untamed mountains stretching to the horizon. You’ll end the day at a high-altitude tented camp in Sarchu, situated at about 4,290 m, truly in the lap of the Greater Himalayas, experiencing the unique thrill and challenge of remote camping in a high-altitude environment.

Day 12

This ride, spanning approximately 150 kilometers, takes you through some of Ladakh’s most surreal and isolated landscapes. You’ll navigate vast high-altitude plains, including sections of the More Plains, and might encounter unique wildlife such as marmots or the elusive kiang (Tibetan wild ass). The road conditions can vary significantly from relatively smooth tarmac to challenging gravel, sandy sections, and occasional water crossings, offering diverse riding challenges. The destination is the unique saltwater Tsokar Lake, shimmering at an altitude of 4,500 m. Known as the “White Lake” due to its salt deposits, it’s a truly desolate and beautiful photographer’s paradise, where you’ll camp by its tranquil shores.

Day 13

This ride, covering approximately 150-160 kilometers, takes you even deeper into the remote Changthang region, a sprawling landscape of vast plains and distant snow-capped peaks. Day 14

Today presents the ultimate challenge for many riders – conquering Umling La Pass, soaring to a staggering altitude of 5,882 m, officially recognized as one of the highest motorable roads in the world. This approximately 120-kilometer round trip from Hanle involves a highly demanding ascent, with extremely thin air, challenging gradients, and often difficult road conditions (loose gravel, steep inclines, and possibly icy patches even in summer). Reaching the summit is an unparalleled achievement, offering an immense sense of triumph and an expansive, otherworldly view of the barren landscape that stretches to the horizon. The ride back to Hanle solidifies the experience of having truly ridden on the roof of the world, a feat few motorcyclists accomplish.

Day 15

A long but immensely rewarding ride covering approximately 250 kilometers takes you from the remote frontiers of Hanle back to the relative civilization of Leh. The roads gradually improve as you approach the fertile Indus Valley, allowing for more consistent speeds and a chance to truly open up your Royal Enfield. You’ll pass through several small Ladakhi villages, witnessing the stunning transition from the vast, empty plains of Changthang to the more populated and vibrant Indus River Valley. It’s a day that combines endurance with increasingly diverse scenic beauty, culminating in your arrival in the bustling yet charming capital of Leh, nestled at an altitude of 3,500 m.

Day 16

This is a crucial rest day for riders to fully recover from the arduous high-altitude challenges and immerse themselves in the rich Ladakhi culture. While based in Leh (3,500 m), you can opt for gentle rides to the majestic Thiksey Monastery, an impressive complex resembling the Potala Palace with its tiered structure, and the serene Shey Palace, once the summer retreat of the Ladakhi kings. Explore the vibrant Leh Main Market, indulge in delicious local cuisine, or simply relax at a café, soaking in the unique atmosphere of this mountain town. This day allows your body and your Royal Enfield to fully recharge before your departure.

Day 17

Your incredible Himalayan Royal Enfield journey concludes today. After a hearty breakfast, you will be transferred to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (Leh Airport), situated at an altitude of approximately 3,500 m, for your onward flight. As you take off, gazing down at the formidable mountain ranges you’ve just conquered, you’ll carry with you indelible memories of challenging roads overcome, breathtaking landscapes witnessed, and the profound sense of accomplishment from having ridden your Royal Enfield across some of the highest motorable terrain on Earth.

Day 18

The final leg of your journey leads you to Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The ride takes you through the lush valleys of the Kashmir region, offering views of rice fields, rivers, and snow-capped mountains. Upon arrival in Srinagar, relax in a traditional houseboat or hotel, surrounded by the serene beauty of Dal Lake. Take a peaceful boat ride on the lake or visit the Mughal Gardens, experiencing the tranquility of this enchanting region.

Day 19

After a relaxing morning in Srinagar, take a final boat ride on Dal Lake and visit the local markets for souvenirs.
